Milco, Lima 2019’s official mascot returned home in the mythical city of Huaral after 2 years.
The great Milco, the official mascot of the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games Lima 2019, after two years of walking and visiting many athletes and Para athletes preparing for the Games, returned home in the millenary city of Huaral. A mandatory stop in the intense #TourDeMilco!
A two-hour car trip separates Huaral from Lima. The city received Milco very early with a perfect weather and the kindness that characterizes its people. The first thing he did was visit Huaral’s Main Square to enjoy the local cuisine. It was delicious!
After having breakfast, Milco wasted no time and got on the bus to that would take him to a place where different cultures shared territory more than 5,000 years ago. The bus stopped at Pisquillo and Los Shicras, areas where his ancestors, the Chancay, lived. Can you believe it? What would you feel if you returned to the place where ALL your family was born?
When someone tells your family history with a lot of passion, it’s impossible not to get excited! Like Walter Tosso, the archaeologist-researcher who has dedicated more than 15 years of his life to investigate and protect the area. In short, Walter is one of the people responsible for the Cuchimilcos to stay current after the disappearance of the Chancay Culture.(Credits: Walter José Acosta)
Cuchimilcos, what’s that?
If you still don’t know what Milco is, it's about time! They are ceramics human-shape figures, with arms and hands open as a welcome sign.
At sundown, Milco returned to the Main Square to play with the youngest, the biggest and with the whole family! Everyone was excited to see it - at last - in flesh and blood (OK, actually, in clay). It was an excellent day for everyone until our beloved pet had to return to Lima to continue spreading the happiness of the Pan American and Parapan American Games. See you soon!
