The Parapan American Torch, a symbol that reflects the spirit of the Games, will be lit on Tuesday, August 20 at the Pachacamac Temple in a ceremony seeking to unite Lima to its ancient past.

This event precedes the tour of the Flame, which will cover the most emblematic locations of the capital. It seeks to create a festive atmosphere where participants can connect with more than two thousand years of traditions, liturgies, and artistic expressions which have defined Peruvian culture until now.

This will prepare the capital to receive the most renowned athletes from all parts of the Americas.

While visiting the “City of the Kings” from August 21 to 23, the Parapan American Flame will seek to inspire equality, hope, courage, and determination, which are the values embodied by each of the Para athletes.

The Parapan American Torch will walk through the most sacred archaeological sites of Lima, as well as its most symbolic touristic destinations. These places are part of a legacy left by the pre-Hispanic, colonial and contemporary periods, which will be claimed on a tour that will transcend borders of time and space to recall and recreate the most significant symbols of our history.

Participants will be able to take pictures while the Flame is borne by renowned personalities of Peruvian sports and representatives of the Civil Society, leaving a mark on the avenues of the capital.

Approximately 300 people will bear the Parapan American Torch. They will bear the Flame, which represents the spirit of the Paralympic values, through historical destinations that due to its historical and cultural importance are the best examples of the inherited legacy of Peru.

This tour seeks to show the most sublime of tangible and intangible Peruvian cultural heritage to all the continent, becoming a place of integration and confluence of the civilizations of the Americas.
