Sport review

This sport is an impressive display of agility, precision, grace, strength and flexibility. It is contested both individually and as a team. Men compete on floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar, while women compete on floor, vault, uneven bars and balance beam. It is part of the Pan American sport program since the first edition in Buenos Aires 1951. The US leads the medal count with 120 gold medals followed by Cuba with 70. In Lima 2019, this sport will be held at Villa El Salvador Sports Center.

History

Artistic gymnastics is the oldest of gymnastics disciplines. It became part of the Olympic Games sport program in 1896 and its origins can be traced back to ancient Greece.
